A Credit company
uses insurance scoring to help determine the
rate changed to an individual for their
policy. The request for credit is submitted
electronically, a score is returned and that
is used along with other factors in
determining how much to charge. If a company
is a credit company, they will allow you to
obtain scores for them as long as you are an
appointed agent and have completed any
necessary paperwork they may require to
obtain their approval to credit score.
Credit companies do not allow scoring on
every single quote. Preset rules for when
ITC should obtain a score determine if a
score is returned for a company. Each
company sets their own scoring rules.

Real-time
rating
is the term used when ITC sends data
directly to a carrier to determine the rate.
The carrier reads in the data, orders
various reports, rates the policy and
returns the premium to ITC. ITC plays no
part in the rating process at all. ITC
simply displays the premium as returned from
the carrier. If that quote is chosen, you
can then bridge to the real-time company’s
site to finish the submittal process. In
order to obtain a real-time rate from a
carrier, you must be an appointed agent for
that carrier. You must also have a valid
producer code, and in some cases, a user id
and password entered on the company
properties screen. In order to get as
accurate a rate as possible, fill out as
much information as you can in the quote.
Pay special attention to company specific
questions making sure to answer these. The
company specific questions are used in
determining the rate you get.
